About Fortunamente Neapolitans

Our kennels are situated in the Upper Hunter region, nestled between the Goulburn River and Wollemi National Parks, approximately 2 1/2 hours from Newcastle and 3 1/2 hours from Sydney.

Fortunamente Neapolitan Mastiffs a.k.a Pete and I started with the Mastino in Picton, New Zealand over 6 years ago under the prefix Fortuna. Our first Mastino, Kiarra, was a New Zealand bred bitch who while very well proportioned in body, lacked strength in head and bone. The elements of Mastino where there, but not quite enough. We found very few of the breeders in New Zealand who understood the Neapolitan and very few examples of good Neapolitans so expanded our search further afield.

We imported a 3 month old bitch, Preziosa and a 21 month old male, Lucifero, from Lorene Cantarella of Magnufi Neapolitan Mastiffs. Both had strengths which we lacked in our kennel and gave us a good base to build up our breeding program. Lucifero was the first Neapolitan Mastiff in New Zealand to win Best in Show at an All Breeds Open Show and both he and Preziosa became New Zealand Champions. Reliquia joined our kennels as an 8 week old pup and again we saw strength in her conformation which would enhance our kennel.

After attending several Royals and Neapolitan Specialty Shows we relocated to Australia. Having been overseas members of the Neapolitan Mastiff Club of NSW the next logical step was to join the committee and begin a more active role in the club. We were extremely fortunate to count Lorene Cantarella as well as Mark and Danielle Danvers as friends and mentors. These 3 people were very generous in extending both their knowledge and hospitality to the 'Kiwi's'.

We are now settled in the Upper Hunter and are looking forward to the future breedings we have planned.
